Toby Turner

Toby Turner is a YouTube comedian who has done rather well for himself in the community having garnered a rather large subscriber base. Here is an example of some of his work.

He has a variety of shows he runs and tends to refer to himself as Tobuscus. He also has used his fame to advertise himself for work and he in fact made a commercial recently for Hot Pockets

This is another example of how careers can be made from simply being one of the most watched people on YouTube and being a great comedian. The stars of YouTube are the inspiration for new generation to rise to the challenge of going viral.

Lucas Cruikshank

Now the fact that I bring up this character might be rage inducing to some members of the audience (don't worry it means your sane) but the next online character we are going to look at is Fred.

This be his animated short.

Now Fred is one of the most subscribed entities of the internet. A young make believe character who come from a broken and dysfunctional family with anger management issues. Cruikshank has since gained such a massive following that he has made 2 movies and a cartoon series that air on Nickelodeon. That is a crazy amount of fame to get off of going viral on YouTube. So no matter how much you like or dislike Fred, he is one of the prime examples of the power that being a YouTube star gives you.

Gary Brolsma

Now lets look at some of the stars that came out of YouYube. For instance lets look at this man, Gary Brolsma.

Otherwise known as the Numa Numa Guy.

Brolsma had recorded a video of himself dancing to the song "Dragostea din tei"by O-Zone. He then put first on Newgrounds and later on YouTube. The video took off and a Viral star was born. Seen as one of the essential figures in the early development of YouTube. He was at first embarrassed by his sudden fame but he would later show up around September 2006 with a new video on his new YouTube channel entitled New Numa.

This video was professionally made by Variety beats and marked the start of a contest hosted off of YouTube offering cash rewards.

Another of the interesting things Brolsma did was bring a surge of popularity to the song itself as it was popular in area like Italy and Romania but not so much in the U.S. The Viral video changed this. Though the band has since gone their separate ways they will forever be remebered thanks to Numa Numa Guy.

Now That You've Seen the Wonderful Video

Well now that you have all been properly educated through the power of video it is time to edumacate you via text.

YouTube was created by a group of brilliant fellows who had previously worked at PayPal. Who were these most fantastic of people you ask? Well my sources have informed me they go by the names of Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim. It is stated that in frustration over the difficulty of uploading videos to the web that they sought to make something easier and able to be utilized by the general public at large.

The first video ever be loaded to site was called "Me at the Zoo", a quick clip of Karim at the San Diego Zoo in front of some elephants. They apparently have really long trunks. I'll just put the link right here. This was about April 23, 2005.

Aren't I nice!

The site had started up with a nice little investment from a nice ol' company of the name Sequoia Capitol, one of the premiere venture firms in Silicon Valley. Sequoia at first invested about $3.5 million but latter added another $8 million. That was when a rather talented entertainer by the name of Judson Laipply released this video.

Man I give so much to you guys!

Now this video went viral fast and stayed at the top of YouTube's charts for most viewed for a while. This was released on April 6, 2006 and got spread around quickly. Suddenly everyone has seen this one video and viral videos from there only grow stronger.

So now that you know about who was behind the creative genius that was this most wondrous of inventions on the interwebs, it is time for us to look upon what this meant to people.
